Did You Know?
What
We Are:
We
are a private non-profit.
We are a business.
We are growing and changing to
meet community needs.
We exist on private donations
to do the work of the community.
What
We Are Not:
We
are not Federally funded.
We are not state funded.
We are not a hand out for clients.
What We Do:
We
provide over a half of a million services in Douglas County each year.
We provide hope.
We help put the pieces back together for people in crisis.
We keep people from becoming
homeless.
We help the sick get well.
We keep people from being hungry.
Who We Help:
The
homeless
The children
The Working Poor
Families
The Elderly
Did
You Know That:
Individual
giving has declined over the past two years?
Each month the Ballard Center
can only help about one-quarter of those needing assistance?
100%
of the money donated to the Ballard Center goes to the children and
families that we serve?
We need your help more than ever?
Each year we set and meet stringent
outcome measures?
What are our Long-Term Goals?
To
build a new infant/toddler early education center for low-income families.
To start a Foster Grandparent
program.
To continue working with the
community to enhance the delivery and administration of non-profit human
service programs.
To continue improving the quality
of our early education program by committing our efforts to the support
of our college educated teachers.
"I
have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position
that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which one has overcome
while trying to succeed."

What Do You Do With Your Household
Goods and Clothing?
Many people call us
to ask about when we take donations of clothing, toys, furniture and other
goods. It is true, we do take donations during business hours. At the
Ballard Center, that is from 9:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
At Penn House, that is from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
The Ballard Center takes children's clothing only. Penn House takes adult
clothing, furniture and toys. Unfortunately, there are times, due to the
restrictions of the Fire Marshall, that we will be unable to take donations.
With the closing of the Salvation Army thrift store we are at capacity
with donations. The Goodwill Store also takes donations of goods and clothing.
We sincerely appreciate the donations and the fact that we can help others
through your generosity, please just understand that we will not always
be able to take your extra items and please keep in mind that we have
to clean up what is dumped outside of our buildings and we ask that you
be considerate and not do so.

Don't forget to
support your local United Way campaign. It makes a very big difference!
